Randy Campbell Guitar/Vocals randy@screamingmimes.com

Randy started out his musical career by being forced, as a young man of 9 years old, to learn a musical instrument (his Mother felt it would make him a well rounded person ... not thinking later in life that "Pizza" would ultimately make him well "Rounded"). The only instrument being taught to 9 year olds at that time was guitar. However, he started off on the right foot with his first teacher being the late great Jazz guitarist Cal Collins, a Cincinnati native. His hand written lessons took Randy a while to figure out, but got him to think about what he was doing musically. He played guitar until he was 14, when he took a break from the strain of being a child prodigy and became a jock.

At age 16, tired of not having a steady girlfriend, he was offered the opportunity to join a band. Thinking to himself "What a better way to meet chics, make money and be popular than to be in a rock band !" But they already had a guitar player ... they needed a bass player. He knew nothing about the bass other than nobody paid attention to what the bass player was playing. It was the perfect marriage ... until he broke his arm a few days later. Determined, he had a friend play a used bass for him to let him know it played well and purchased and learned to play his first bass with his arm in a cast.

Randy has enjoyed many years of playing in cover bands, as well as all original groups too. He also knew he would be in the "entertainment" business somehow ... whether in front of the camera or behind. He choose to be "Way" behind the camera and worked in radio and television productions. Starting out as a video editor at a small production house, he worked his way downtown to Channel 5, warming up audiences before Live on 5, an hour long variety/interview program that starred Pat Berry and Toria Tolley ... until cancellation sent him up on the hill. Teaming up with Preston, Randy became his assistant. Realizing on day 2 that he was NOT going to be a good video editor at that level, he focused his thoughts and energies toward the audio suite that was sitting there collecting dust. And the rest is what they say is history. With the backing of Preston and friends he has been able to eeck out a living as an audio engineer and live happily ever after. Until intern Dave jumps into his life and prompts him into picking up the guitar again and doing parody songs for friends, singing campfire songs ... even if there was no campfire for miles ... and dance recitals. Of course Preston played the bass, so Randy had to get out the dusty Harmony guitar.

According to Randy, "I'm having the time of my life! Funny how life can bring you back to where you started… We are very supportive of one another other and we push to get the best out of ourselves. There are no pre-conceptions of what each others roles are."
